V4Vsockets is an efficient low-overhead mechanism that provides high-performance intra-node communication in Virtual Machines. V4Vsockets is based on V4V, a Xen transport layer that provides inter-domain communication, supporting one to many connections and using TCP/IP protocol semantics. Early evaluation of TCP/UDP socket communication between co-existing VMs shows improved performance compared to the generic approach (TCP/UDP sockets over IP). The hypervisor patches and the V4Vsockets driver and library are available on github (for access contact {ananos,ialif} __at__ cslab.ece.ntua.gr).
